Welcome to Home Craft - Hand Crafted Rocking Horses.

HOME CRAFT has been carving heirloom quality Rocking Horses (RH's) since 1997. These bespoke horses are handmade to order for discerning customers in beautiful hardwoods and are available in a range of sizes suitable for 10 month old tots up to adults of 99 years (subject to weight). Alternatively, for that urgent present, there are often completed horses in stock. (For details of range of sizes and horses for sale please refer to Prices section; for larger photographs please refer to Gallery pages.)

These horses are all child friendly and have safety features incorporated. The faces  are carved to create a gentle and friendly smile. The teeth are not highlighted so young children are not frightened. Additional safety features can be added and are recommended. (For details refer to Products and Accessories sections.)

YOUR DREAM HORSE: Why not join me in a wonderful adventure to create your dream rocking horse? You may want a fine piece of furniture or a special present for your new grandchild or your own children or your partner. Give me a challenge and with your input into the design we can together create a stunning horse that is tailor made for your family, or for someone special.

Stop Press!  Do you have a strong fascination with history? For a limited period I can create your family heirloom in 300 year old walnut from Barnard Castle in County Durham, UK. The tree was planted as a sapling in 1720 (Map verified). First come first served until stock runs out. For more details see 'News' section.

THE CRAFTSMAN: My name is Shaun Hoey. Although I went to a grammer school my natural ability lay more with technical and artistic subjects. I excelled in art, engineering drawing and woodwork, rather than the more academic subjects. Perhaps that is why I was a square peg in a 'O'!

I left school at 16 and completed an apprenticeship as a shipwright working in wood and steel. After obtaining an HNC in Naval Architecture I worked for several years as a design draughtsman, and this was followed by a spell in quality assurance in one of the River Clyde's few remaining shipbuilding yards.

The last phase of my career was as a senior health and safety advisor in a large industrial complex. Early retirement was taken in 1996 and I started designing and crafting rocking horses in 1997. This was in response to the request of a local lady, (who has since ordered another), and the business then progressed by word of mouth.

I find that in the designing and making of rocking horses I can apply many skills learnt and honed in my 40+ year career. It is a very satisfying and enjoyable experience, especially when customers are delighted with the end product. Yes, I have caught the 'rockers' bug.
